| 1965 Fastback Supercharged 5.0 5 speed Mustang
We challenged ourselves to come up with a
conversion process that is easy, affordable and able to be performed by the
do-it-yourselfer. The combination we are about to illustrate is a 1965 Mustang Fastback C
code automatic.
First, we chose one of our parts cars, a
1990 Mustang GT, with low mileage and relocated it next to our project car.
| Step One:
we removed the tired original 289 engine and slip
sliding automatic, including all engine compartment wiring, exhaust, trans mount,
etc |
|

|
Step Two: Remove original pedal assembly and installed our
modified pedal assembly. We used our drill template and installed the pedal assembly along
with master cylinder and booster assembly car. In addition, we also
maintained the 90's proportioning
valve. We double flared a couple original brake lines
and the brakes were done. Next installed were the donor cars accelerator pedal and
cable. |
|
|
Step Three: Installed original
motor mounts used on the 289 on to the 5.0 and exhaust manifolds used on the 289 (headers
optional). Drop engine in and secure the motor mounts. |
|
Step Four: We went to our
transmission room and pulled the parts off the shelf to update our tired standard T-5 into
a gear banging fresh heavy duty Z transmission. We installed the fresh tranny on to our
5.0 which just received a new Motorsport flywheel with new Cobra clutch kit. Using our
modified trans mount, we secured our T-5 into place. |
|
Step Five: Pulled out glove box and
mounted the 90 computer to the cowl area. We then cut a hole through the firewall to
run our engine harness. Plugging the harness to the engine is a snap. Connected power to
the computer off the ignition switch and were almost done.
|
|
Step Six: Utilizing the original
fuel lines of the 90, we modified the tank end to install an external fuel pump
complete with mounting bracket. We wired the fuel pump using the 90's inertia switch for
added safety |

|
After, we drove the car and were amazed
with results the power and fuel mileage is amazing. However, we couldnt leave well
enough alone. We picked up the phone and ordered ourselves a Vortec S-trim supercharger,
increased our injectors mass air meter and added a GT 40 intake. Need we say more - we
created a monster. Now when we want to go for a drive we have to call the airport for
permission to take off! |
|
This particular car in addition to the above mentioned modifications also received an 8.8
rear-end out of our donor car. We updated it to a five big bolt pattern and added some
street gears. Our exhaust system is 2
1/2" diameter from front to back utilizing Macs new coated tailpipe.
One final check over before going to our
paint shop. Its amazing what a good coat of paint does to steel.

We
are offering this kit at any stage you desire or are available to provide a
turn key job for all model Mustangs. The real beauty of this conversion is
it is totally bolt-in and can be reversed very easily. We see more and more
Mustang owners using their cars daily including long trips. Why not have
24-25 miles per gallon and more power than you can imagine. Later in life
when you want your Stang back to original, just dig the original stuff out
of the corner of the garage and bolt it back to original. |
